Did all '56s have these heat shields?
Did any '57s have them?

My Dec 56 built 57 does not have them, or any holes that they would have been mounted thru. The heat shields have been brought up a couple of times on the TDD. I have yet to see a definite answer on them.

There are no shields on my March '57. My car has not been restored.

FYI - BAT photo is from '57 VIN #10 which was an original 2x4 car fitted with FI by engineering.

John, my 57 VIN F0103468 Apr 57 a 270 HP unit did not have any shield in place, nor any holes in the fiberglass.

My very late 56 (4363) has the shields.

1957 #336 does NOT have them

Neither did 1957 VIN 213 have those heat shields

1956 vin 4464 had them - 3 from the end of production

As I understand it, the last 100 or so 1956's & 1st 100 or so 1957's were basically assembled together. There wasn't a stop of '56 production and a start of '57 production.

Have searched the 1956 Bill of Materials for; insulator, heat, shield and do not find the "heat shields".

Any ideas on what the GM name for those might be to search on?

this maybe the heat shield part number - 3706880 Shield-Muffler

No luck so far finding 3706880 in my 1956 P&A. My 1958 P&A is digitally scanned and 3706880 is not listed.
