Master cylinder with rust and porosity

1970. Is it worth soaking this in a caustic bath to clean. If so, is there anything else I can do to rebuild it while it's removed? AIM lists the part number as 5458831. If rebuilding isn't an option does this number still apply?

My brake system is open with new lines and none of this was introduced to it.

I'd be buying a reproduction with the correct date stamp on it.
The inner bore looks bad even through those small holes.

Hello Justin, contact CSSB Inc. ( Corvette Stainless Steel Brakes Inc.) at 800-262-9595. They make new exact reproduction master cylinders with correct part and date code stampings. Go on their website and view all their products. I have installed many of their master cylinders, brake calipers, and brake components over the years and have absolutely no problems. They offer excellent technical advice if needed and have fast delivery of their products. John

Please report the CASTING number which is on the side of the master cylinder. It should be 5460346. From what I can see of this master cylinder in your photo, I'm not even sure this is an original GM master cylinder.

              Joe,
There's not GM casting number on the master cylinder
I'll be taking Patrick and John's advice.

                Justin,

No casting number on this part means it's not GM.
                thx,
                Mark

...and, thus, it's absolutely not worth rebuilding even if it could be rebuilt.

Will these pits in the booster cause a loss of vacuum?
