    Original OLA Fuel Tank

How can I tell if my tank is original or Quanta replacement in my Nov 63 built 64? The OLA logo is sideways to the car and the sending unit says "AC Made IN USA with a large letter S on the left and I to right side. The anti vibration straps are GM logo cork.

    Thanks Jim

These are photos of my 67 original tank. The anti rattle strips are original. They are about 3/32 thick. They appear to be a "tar" impregnated felt material with a pattern of "needle" punctures........... There are 2 widths: 1.5 in and 2 in.

Looks like mine except for the tar felt strips. Maybe my tank is original but someone changed to cork strips at some time. The tank does look old and I have no reason to believe it was replace based on the cars history.

Gm could have changed the strip material. Mine is a 67.

Removed tank today. The cork strips are not GM, rather standard blue stripe rolled cork gasket material cut in strips and contact cemented. There also is what appears a 2"x2" black plastic patch under the front strip. I think what happened; there was a pinhole leak that got repaired and they trashed the felt and replaced with cork.
              Thanks for all the pics

Those printed numbers on the sheet metal were discussed about a month ago on this board. Probably ID stuff for the sheet metal manufacturer.

James, thanks for the through description. Sounds like a good plan. I love Evap-O-Rust (use it for everything). Just starting a total body off restore even though I bought this car 20 years ago; so I have a long haul and will posting lots of questions.Body Removal.jpg
