Re: 61/62 Off Road Mufflers New News!

Found this from Larry Chilton on Corvette Forum form 2015 - it leads me to conclude that my Off Road Mufflers are indeed original OEM units.

    https://www.corvetteforum.com/forums...-mufflers.html

    Per Larry :

"I thought the following information might be useful to other forum readers.

C-1 off-road mufflers with forward exhaust extensions as they were originally made:

    Muffler dimensions: approx 23.5"L x 4.25" dia
Fwd exhaust extensions: approx 21"L x 2" o/s dia pipe
    muffler exh end: approx 2.25"L x 1 7/8" o/s dia pipe

The left muffler extension is stamped 3813535 (see photo)
    Corvette parts - Group 3.701 - Left muffler 3813533; Right 3813534

You can see the number correlation between number stamped on left fwd extension and the Corvette part #s.

As you can see in one photo, the mufflers are NOT straight thru as many contend. There is baffling spot welded to inside of mufflers. There are 12 spots welds around the muffler circumference on each end and 12 spots towards the muffler center sections. And, as I mentioned in previous post, these NOS mufflers are identical to the original ones on my '62 340hp which was like new when purchased in 1965.

Even though the mufflers have baffling and are NOT straight thru flowing, they have a terrific sound in case you've never heard them before.

Note - open Larry's link to see excellent picture details - identical to my examples.

While these mufflers might be over the counter service replacements from back in the day, I don't believe there were what was installed at the plant.

For what it is worth, if I was judging these, I would be taking a configuration deduction (20%) due to the numbers on the mufflers (211320A).
