Patrick, I don't have my AIM handy, but aren't the part numbers in it? If so, try looking them up in gmpartswiki.com or in your hardcopy P&A Catalog. If they show up in the Standard Parts section, detailed specs may be there.

The AIM shows the numbers - and that's what led me to Googling the part numbers and finding Dr Rebuild's different parts or everyone else's washers and nuts.

Since no one sees them I'm less concerned about which ones are correct.
I'd still like to know how to access the back side. It appears that removing the passenger's side kick panel is quite the chore, if that's how it is done.

FYI, per the Parts Wiki, the screw number 9417706 doesn't exist, and the 3780673 is some type of 10-24 nut.

Patrick, I found some info.

The screw is part# 9417706. According to the P&A Standard Parts Catalog, HERE, it's a Flat Head Cross Recess 10-24 machine screw 3/4" long, Phos coated.

The nut is part# 3780473(Edit see below, its 3780673). Unfortunately, no info, but it states "assembly" so it's likely a nut with a integrated washer? This was in neither the 1971 or 1974 catalogs.

Here's a handy page from that 1974 P&A catalog for reference. Located HERE. My AIM is a lousy copy and hard to read that nut part# so I could be wrong. Maybe go there and see if something similar shows up in Section 8.914 to 8.925, where it shows all of the nut fasteners.

WAIT. I was WRONG, it's 3780673. I found it. It's in section 8.921 "Stamped Nuts" "Faceted Flange Type".
LOOK HERE. It's a stainless nut, likely with a integrated washer maybe?

P.S. I'd bet Rev Mike E may have the answer on the lower screws. My 62 is long gone and I forget.

Interesting.

The one "nut" that I can access in the wheel well looks like the "faceted flange" nut you show, but it's definitely black phosphate, i.e. black and corrosion. I was going to re-phosphate them this weekend. I wonder if they changed it to stainless later?

Yes the book is 1974 so that's very possible. I have a 1959 catalog in the shop I'll check if it shows up there for other cars.

The AIM we have doesn't really show access or attachment in any meaningful way. At least, not that I found in looking through it 3 times.

Patrick No luck on that nut in 1959 or prior. The part didnt exist then in the Standard Hardware section. 376xxxx was the last entry.

So those lower nuts must be behind the kick panel. Yes a chore. This is how I've done it. See 1st method. I've been told by someone method 2 works too.

-Remove Package tray
-Remove kick panel screws
-Remove screws on left side of heater cover at the center console.

This next step can be done 2 ways...
First put some plastic sheeting along front edge of the center console where it meets the heater cover. This to protect paint.

1st method:
Remove 2 screws(if there), from the heater cover to the kick panel. There may be flat nuts behind the panel holding the screws.
Carefully pull the left side of the cover toward you, over the plastic sheeting that you put over the center console. Remove the cover. Then remove the kick panel.

2nd method:
Leave the 2 screws in that attach the heater cover to the kick panel. Pull the heater cover and kick panel as an assembly, as explained above, with left side of cover away from center console, over the plastic sheeting.

Note you have to really pull that left edge of the cover away from the center console, either method.

And yes, like many fasteners, they only show a few, not all.

I would expect to see what is being called a "faceted flange nut". Definitely not stainless and I have not seen them in black phosphate.
I would expect them to be cad plated, like used in other areas of the car. Perhaps they were changed or coated on this car in another life?
As already stated, the kick panel is typically removed to access those 2 hidden ones.

Rev. Mike's majority of his '62 study was prior to smart phones and digital cameras, so he has kinda been left in the dust in some respects.However, he still has a small plastic drawer entitled "62 side louver hardware". Attached are photos that should help. For some reason, the site will only download one picture per post, so I will work with it that way.
