just read on the CF that paul's is closing. they always did great plating for me- i've probably sent them chrome off of nearly 20 corvettes i've restored. if i wasn't satisfied( only happened once with 57 tail lights) they have me send them back for re=plating and wouldn't charge again. sad to hear this. probably related to some EPA law. mike mccagh

Re: Paul's chrome plating in evans city Pa closing
Sounds like very poor business management from the CF thread - perhaps other factors at play, but don't take new orders when the bankruptcy writing is on the wall. That is just plain unethical and underhanded. Apparently, no money to return deposit and possibly not returning parts to owner.- Top

Sad they are going out of business after so many years of great service. However, they are not distinguishing themselves on the way out the door, taking a customer's money and his parts?- Top

Re: Paul's chrome plating in evans city Pa closing
I don't like it any more than others but.... we don't know all the circumstances. If the business is incorporated they may be going through formal Chapter 11 bankruptcy proceedings. In that case, laws and lawyers dictate the disposition of assets and virtually all materials on the premises and the owners don't have much authority to do anything. As for closing the doors - I am not surprised - it is a highly regulated business, the overhead costs are a huge burden, then there is the problem of finding skilled employees that are willing to work. I don't know what Paul's was offering employees per hour but there is a limit to what the company can afford to pay. Chrome plating is a labor intensive process - and preparation is everything. Again - it is unfortunate, for the hobby and those that have "stuff" at the shop - but we don't know all the details. May never know.Ed- Top

Sad to hear this, the regulations in New Mexico got bad enough several years ago that all of them had to close, along with a carb rebuilding operation. But, we are close to Mexico, and they have no such problems, so some have moved there and reestablished their businesses.Big Tanks In the High Mountains of New Mexico- Top

Re: Paul's chrome plating in evans city Pa closing
The pre-treatment requirements promulgated by the USEPA for discharge to sanitary sewer systems creates enormous difficulty and expense for platers, especially small job shops. Of course, I do not know if that was the reason for this shop to close. In Appreciation of John Hinckley- Top

Re: Paul's chrome plating in evans city Pa closing
When I first read this news I was like..oh No! But seems I dodged a major bullet. I am in the midst of tear down on my 69 L46 convertible. I had done research and planned to have Paul's do my bumpers and whatnot at some point being as I live about 30 mins away. Well...in Sept I unexpectedly took a new job and will be moving to Florida next year. So before I move away I pulled all the bumpers off in early Nov and been meaning to bring them to Paul's so they could be done before my move. Never got around to it and they still sit in a box in my garage!! I have to believe there are enough assets to liquidate to cover return shipping for anyone with parts there as well as down payment reimbursement...so long as folks involved do the right thing. Not sure of the company situation...but the building alone gotta be worth a bit. Hope everyone makes out ok. As for me...guess I will be driving to Librandi's sometime soon.***************

Re: Paul's chrome plating in evans city Pa closing
I live about 4 miles from them. I was planning to take some parts from a new project I have going but I wasn't looking forward to the quote. They were pretty proud of their work since there prices were always much higher than you would expect. However I could trust they would do a good job. I'll take a drive by this week to see if there is anyone around.
