    1967 Small Block Hood

All, Happy Thanksgiving to you and yours!

May I impose on you folks for your expert opinion? I'm looking at a hood offered for sale for my 67. My question is, for my 106xx mid production car, would there be any "imprint" or evidence of the locating holes where the hood emblem had access on the underside on the '66 hoods. Or is that underside smooth no holes or markings? Hope the question is clear....tough without the use of photos

Holes or no holes or filled in holes is the question?

This picture shows the access holes.

My early no hit 67 built prior to the strike appears to have filled emblem holes.

Kevin, I have access here to what seems to be a 67 production line 327 hood. It has the flat steel rivets , not the aluminum pop rivets. The reinforcement panel has the 3 round and 1 oval holes for installing the emblem nuts. The top hood panel is not drilled but has small nubs at each location where it would need to be drilled if an emblem was used as a 66 has. The nubs are round ,a little less than 1/8" round and protrude about 1/16"

Kev are you referring to the holes that would have to be drilled to instal the emblem on a 66 hood ? I have a no hit 18,000 car with filled in holes for s 66.hood I was told that there is no way 66 hoods were used on 67 cars.

Hi Bill, Yes, i am referring to those access holes. The going back and forth with this question, leaving me without a diviative answer had me walk away from the hood I was looking at....The hood offered had no holes, no trace of holes, a smooth reinforcement. I'll wait to buy after a bit more education.

If you post a picture it would a terrific help to me?

                TIA

Kevin, I don't know if any 67 327 hood came without the access holes. A very late AO Smith 67 I've seen had them. If they were using up left over 66 under panels because 67 didn't need them with holes, the 67 survivor 200xx I saw probably wouldn't have them. If the hood you looked at had no holes in the underside for emblem nuts, it may have been a 65 hood. If you are looking for a correct 67 327 hood, the fiberglass color is black, 65 fiberglass was white or light gray. The front vertical edge of the bottom hood panel on all c2 cars, often had very little primer, body paint and black out over spray on them so fiberglass color can be seen. This can be seen through the grille opening with the hood closed. Also production line hoods should have steel flat type rivets about a 1/2" head holding the hardware plates on.
