'56-57 Carpet - ACC or Al Knoch?

    Hi All,

Looks like 56-57 carpet is $300 for the ACC/Auto Custom Carpets and $704 at Al Knoch. I don't have either to compare, but has anyone had a car with ACC judged and had a problem?

    Thanks,

    Bob

I believe the ACC carpet has the "grain" running parallel to the firewall. It should run on a diagonal (45*) from the firewall. When manufacturing the carpet there's a lot more waste when cutting it on the diagonal. You might check with AK to see how his is cut. Several years ago I replaced the carpet in my '57 with the correct grain pattern. As I recall the only company offering the correct carpet was Romeo Engineering but that may have changed.

We used AK several years ago on a friend's '56. It wasn't diagonal grain. You best check to see if it is now. At $700 I'd hope so.

Unsure if original, but it had diagonal grain.

According to the AK site, it makes this comment...

"Exact original NCRS correct Daytona weave carpet only available at Al Knoch Interiors"

        56-57-daytona-carpet-set

A close up of their photos shows this. It appears to be at a diagonal.

Edit- I'm thinking years ago you could get either the "replacement" or the more expensive weave. It appears they only sell the more expensive weave now.
