    C6, door opening touch pad

Just curious. The tough pad to open my drivers door on my 2006 C6 now fails about 90% of the time. I ordered a GM part to replace it, for about $24.00. Part 22751230. It's a 5 minute swap.

Question is, is this a common failure?

Harry, Yes I recall it's very common. I had both of mine on my '07 replaced under warranty in 2008. Still ok so far.

I thought it would be a PIA to replace, but YouTube has a good video!

This is one of those items that will help you fail a PV. I'm looking to PV the car in Marlborough next June.

Ok, Good. Hate to see the infamous A6 shifter cable pivot bushings fail in a PV.

I figured that was why you were asking.

This is a very common failure, as Rich and others have mentioned. Lots about it on Corvette Forum ans cures (replacement as was pointed out, on C6 maintenance on Face Book. The U Tube v video is your friend, as you found out. I probably shouldn't speak so soon, but so far my 2008 has escaped this issue, but I have replacements on hand for when.

Thanks Terry. I looked at the cure, 2000 grit paper on the contacts. Seemed easy enough but some said it did not last long.

                  Cheers

I think replacement, especially at the price, is the answer, however cleaning the contacts shouldn't hurt as a easy (relatively) attempt. As I said i have no experience with this yet. At 96k miles I have no complaint yet.

Installed the new touch pad this afternoon. A two minute swap and the problem is fixed.
