    69 hood latch wire suggestions

To avoid problems in the future, plus it looked a bit frayed, I replaced the wire inside the sheath of the cable that runs from the left to right hood latches. Of course, the first time I tried it out, the wire promptly snapped. causing me to have to make a tool to get that right latch free. I had installed an emergency pull cord on the left one but hadn't done the right.

I forget what I used for replacement, perhaps picture hanging wire, but I don't want to try that again. Anyone have suggestions and where/what to get. I want to retain the original sheath if I can.

    Thanks,

    Rich

Did you consider buying the reproduction unit, and using your outer sheath?

Yes, that's the way to go IF the reproduction assembly has the multi-stranded cable (like the last available GM assembly). I would NEVER, EVER use the monofilament wire type as was originally used on most C-3's NEVER, EVER.

How many originality points would one lose?

Rich, do you..or anyone...have tech details and/or pics on how to make emergency pull cords?
          Thanks,

I don't know but I would not care. The original monofilament wire work hardens and breaks. That won't happen with the multi-stranded wire.

I'll take a look at a repro cable but it is probably difficult to be sure the wire on the repro will fit inside the original sheath.

My emergency pull cord was really pretty basic - A string on the latch that extended down below the frame. For me, it was just something temporary until I am "sure" that it all works correctly and is reliable.
