The part number for the license plate attachment KIT used from 1966 through at least 1978 was GM #3875313. However, this kit was PRODUCTION-only and never available in SERVICE.

I have not been able to come up with a part number for the screws, alone.

According to John Hinckley, I recall him mentioning that the kits varied in 1964-65 years (some containing the nylon nuts... which were later pre-installed). In addition, the kits were typically compiled via a partnership with handicapped organizations.

For 1963, it appears the individual parts (screws and nuts) were listed in the Misc Shipping List. As you can follow (via the SQUARE numbers), the parts were instructed to go in a BAG, and then placed in the Glove Box.

Looking up Part #3794162, I also see the following:

BTW- I have no idea if the screws changed over time. I believe the TAN PAPER packaging eventually progressed into a CLEAR PLASTIC pouch. I thought I remembered seeing some DOUBLE slotted screw heads in some of the newer kits, but I can't be certain.

            Jack------

I do not know if the GM #3794162 was the screw included with the 1966+ GM #3875313 license plate kit. Perhaps someone with a 1963-64 who believes they have their original license plate screws could comment on the screw configuration.

GM #3794162 was once available in SERVICE. It was discontinued in January, 1978 and replaced by GM #9423636 which was later replaced by GM #9423101. The latter is discontinued without supercession. Strangely, the 9423636 was 1/4-14 X 1", phillips head and phosphate finished. I do not have specs on the 9423101.

              Hey Joe-

It seems there were several changes of the individual screw, and envelope kits also varied (even between different Chevy cars).
For example (from the Corvette AIM), we have the following:
              1962 Screw = 144531
              1963 Screw = 3794162
              1964-65 Kit = 3858189
              1966-7? Kit = 3875313

Some kits were re-purposed (with a different shaped screw):
              License Plate Attachment Unit - Re-Purposed (3875313).jpg

While later C3 years used a plastic bag (with a different screw head):
License Plate Attachment Unit - Plastic Bag (3875313.jpg
This design even had me wondering when the screw head reverted back to a SINGLE slot?
With so many variations, it may be difficult to properly track the changes.

The nut size was smaller - what year did that change?

Just my opinion and two cents worth. I believe that the screws were definitely plated, but not cadmium. They were clear silver zinc.

The print in 1979 had zinc plate

                          Ron,

yes, that is what I said clear silver zinc. A lot of people confuse clear silver, zinc with silver cad.
