Re: License plate screws GM supplied in new cars

I searched "license plate screw" to learn what they looked like in 1970, and this unanswered thread popped up.

Is this the style of slotted truss head screw that was used? Plated or were they natural?

I looked at the JG to answer my own question (which I should have done first...).

For 70-72, the screws are "cadmium plated slotted oval head with a large diameter head, coarse threads, and a flat threaded end." Which is similar to the photo above.

It's interesting there's only four screws per car (not eight).

These screws and plastic nuts are still being sold by most fastener companies. You'll pay about $20 for a box of 50.

These are exactly like the license plate screws I got on my 2023 Z06. I expect that is why they are still being sold by GM and many others. I doubt they are cadmium plated now days, however that is a whole other story.

Maybe the only Corvette part that hasn't changed in 60 years. Good trivia question.

I was about to go that way and then I thought of the Schrader valve. I think it is still the same even if in the Tire Pressure Monitor, but I haven't lookrf at that.

i think i have an unused/unopened manilla envelope the screws and nuts came in from the factory in my parts room. If I still have, i remember it had a part number on it. I'll check tonight and post. ARA
