    Thermostat issue?

I've had a productive winter with my 67. I re-installed the missing power brake booster, removed the aftermarket side exhaust and replaced with original exhaust manifolds and returned the car to original under car exhaust. I removed a electric fuel pump with associated rubber lines, and returned the car to original fuel line and mechanical pump. Lastly, installed a 3885069 intake to replace the leaky, cracked aftermarket that came with the car. Well, fired it today. Runs good but I think I might have a stuck T-Stat. the lower radiator hose, heater hoses, by pass hoses hot to the touch. Upper radiator hose and radiator, cool to the touch. Stuck thermostat??. Gary

Sure sounds like it. Hopefully, that's it...easy fix. Sounds like you had a very productive winter.

Maybe I just do not.understand thermostats..but if one goes from.180 to 195 thermostat stays closed longer and so how does that fix cooler hose issue??

            Gary,

Best thermostat for our Corvettes are Robert Shaw. Why, they don't stick closed.

There are a couple of racing supplies that have Robert Shaw thermostats with bleed holes drilled in them that makes it easier to remove trapped air.

I'm VERY surprised that your 75 owner's manual specifies a 180 degree thermostat. All 1975 Corvettes were equipped with the Air Injection Reactor (AIR) emission control system. In all cases that I'm aware of, GM vehicles with AIR are equipped with a 195 degree thermostat. Non AIR equipped vehicles of the period usually spec a 180 degree thermostat.

However, I recommend a 180 degree thermostat for all 1963-1980 Corvettes, with or without AIR.

Also, I do not understand how the installation of a 195 degree thermostat could, in and of itself, correct the problem you describe when using the 180 degree thermostat unless that thermostat was defective.
