    Re: Corvette Storage on Lift

When I use my 4-post lift the car sits as normal for the entire winter. Some years it sits in the garage. I've never had an issue with flat spots on the tires which are rayon cord. I have those foam protectors and used them one year, then stopped without any issues. The car always feels and handles the same after winter storage with absolutely no noises that would be apparent if the bushings had been stress. Maybe I'm just lucky.

Actually...my take is not necessarily that you are lucky...but rather that many of us myself included fret far more than necessary about a lot of things...like my flatstoppers...but that's ok.

I have both types. they are a great theft deterrent. when i go away for a few days i kill the breaker to the garage and the cars are stuck up in the air.

You're still torqueing the rubber bushings and putting stress on them.

I know this is hard to believe, but cars are designed to sit on all 4 tires. All the time. And it's OK.

In the scenario Matthew described I do not see how there would be any notable add'l or undue torque imposed on the bushings. They are far more stressed during normal driving than slight lifting of the car to relieve some pressure off the suspension. But I reiterate (and agree) I don't think any of that listing would achieve any meaningful benefit and a strong case has been made previously here not to let em hang freely. To me when it comes to the cost/benefit a lot of this is like determining how many angel hairs can be split on the head of a pin....aka religious war...but the science and engineering is quite fun. ;-)

If you want to store a car on jack stands, just place the stands under the suspesion (lower "A" arms & rear sring mounts) and now you can have the tires off the ground and the suspension is in the normal ride condition.......... benefit???????? Tires will be "round".........

You guys are WAAAAAAY overthinking this. Store the car at normal ride height, either on the ground or on a drive-on lift, NOT a frame lift.

Pump the tires up to the maximum cold pressure placarded on the tire sidewall or at least 35 psi.

Fill the fuel tank and change the oil if it's got more than 2-3000 miles or 2-3 years.

Change the brake fluid and coolant if it will time expire before the end or storage.

Disconnect the battery and charge once a month of leave a float charger connected.

Cover it with a $500 fleece lined custom car cover or an old horse blanket... whatever is most convenient.

                Your done, have a beer.

                  Re: Corvette Storage on Lift

I have been working on a storage document for a while, and I now consider it complete.

There have been several posts in the past on storing, but to my knowledge there is no one document that covers all that should be done before storing an automobile. This is written to encompass any vintage automobile - not just Corvettes.

I wrote it in docx because of the editing capability and the save options in Word, and because I want to send it to some non-NCRS people. I converted it to PDF for the forum.

Comments are welcome - good or bad, your input is desired. It is public read, feel freed to copy it or modify for your own use.

                    Re: Corvette Storage on Lift

I remember several years ago one of our members in California left his C1 Corvette, believe it was a 62 on a frame contact lift over a long weekend & there was a "California Earthquake" over the weekend. The Corvette was shaken off the lift with lots of damage! I believe there were pictures in the Driveline, or Vette Vues! Sorry I can't remember his name, (He was a well known Vendor), that is why I only leave my Corvette on the lift when I am working on it, & if the work is not done at the end of the day I lower it to the ground for overnight & raise it back up the next day!
                    Strange things can happen!!
