    1963 Transmissions

Did all 1963 Corvettes come with Borg-Warner T-10 transmissions or did some come with Muncie transmissions?

They switched from Borg-Warner T-10 to Muncie transmissions in early May from what I have read.

The 63 Muncie case is another only 63 part. The 63 case has a small bearing retainer which is designed to fit the 63 bell housing which again is different then later years. I agree with Rick's comment above that the Muncie transmission began to appear the beginning of May 63.

The 63 B-W is a one year only unit as well.

The Muncie I have has a main case #3831704, left side cover #3831707, tail stock #3871731, and a date code of P0211. Does this sound correct for a Muncie from 1963?

Post pictures of the Muncie, all sides, also, what is your cars VIN. The more information you provide the more we can assist.

            From my July 19th car:

            Maincase Casting 3831704
            Tailhousing Casting 3831731 GM 3831731
            Sidecover Casting 3831707
Front Bearing Retainer Casting 604932 GM 18
            P0211 is February 11th.

Michael, what are you looking to do:
            • See if the Muncie you have is original to the car, if yes, the VIN derivative should be stamped on the Muncie
            • See if the Muncie you have is a period correct Muncie and put in in your car?

                Harry,

I would like to unite this transmission to the car it belongs to. I wanted to find out more about it before I put in the orphan section.

Michael, if there is no VIN stamped on the transmission, it's safe to say it is not from a Corvette.

                    Harry-------

With no VIN, at all, it's likely a SERVICE transmission or, at least, a SERVICE main case.

                      Fellows,

The transmission does have a VIN. (#3200740). I didn't want to post it until I knew for sure what the transmission was.

3200740 I believe is out of a passenger car. This is a 63 stamp 31....... Out of 63 VIN 18295.

Out of all the conversations I had today, that transmission came out of one of the 1.5 million 1963 Impalas produced.

                          Harry,

Thank you, I will not put this transmission in the orphan section.
