    63 U-joints

    Hey guys,

In the 63-64 JM page 206 under "Driveshaft & Half Shaft Assemblies" there is a line that says (Half shafts attach to the differentioal output yokes with a flat cap and black phosphate or natural steel "U" Bolts, lock washers and nuts.)

What is the "flat cap" referring to? Is that saying the U-Joint caps should be flat, not with an indention? If so, would this be for driveshaft and half shafts both?

    Thanks!
    Todd

That refers to the U-joint caps. The production U-joint caps were flat....not stepped as commonly seen on modern replacement U-joints.

On occasion, Paragon sells flat capped U-joints with no zerks. You might try them. Good luck!

Here is what to look for, the actual cups are a little smaller also, but can not tell without a gauge.

That's great, thanks so much for the pictures, that really helps. Is that an unrestored driveshaft with factory paint markings or has that been done after the fact?

Basically an original, however black goop removed, soaked in rust remover (Rid Rust now Safest Rust ultraoneusa.com) which does not remove paint, and new paint (same color) added at the remnant locations.
