    My goal

    Mike -

About 25 years ago I bought an orphan '65 FI long block at Carlisle. This engine had left the St. Louis plant in a convertible with VIN 00022. I had hoped to one day reunite it with that car. However, that may not be possible. The Warren Chevy Engineering Office took original delivery and may have scrapped the body.

I'd like to put this long block in an original '65 FI body while I can still play with cars. I assume this means during the next 5 - 10 years, because I'm not a Spring Chicken. I thought this body was a good candidate because it needs so little cosmetic work. But you're right... way too many "if's" for the cost.

Here's what I think. The VIN and trim tags are original for this body. The 2004 entry in the '65 FI Survey is probably accurate, indicating VIN 9761 was factory injected. At some point in its life, the FI system was removed. The body nose was skillfully replaced later as a collision repair. The replacement panels appear to be original GM parts including some '66 - '67 inner fenderwells.

I'm going to stop wasting everyone's time. This '65 is very nice, but not worth close to the asking price to me.

      Jerry,
These kinds of discussions are never a waste of time, especially for people new to the Corvette community like me and have intentions of carrying the preservation and knowledge of these great cars into the future.

I can't make myself tell the dealer what this car is really worth to me. He would probably try to bitch-slap me through the phone.

            Re: Photo request

Jerry: re: Could someone who owns a factory-injected '65 please post a photo showing the inside surface of the driver's fender above the louvers? I'd like to see where the FI emblem holes should have penetrated the bonding strip.
Contact Tony Stein, he's a NCRS member also. He is currently restoring an original 1965 Corvette Roadster with Fuel Injection.
He should be able to provide some photos.
