    knock off center caps

I bought 66 bolt on knock offs for my convertible. Everything is on but I cannot get the center cap to "snap" into the spinner. The directions states that you put the cap into the groove of the spinner and "snap" it into place. There are three tabs on the spinner. When I put the tabs into the spinner, they seem to "bottom" out on the spinner BEFORE they can be recessed enough to "snap" into place. Has anyone ran into this issue? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Has the aluminum safety pin bottomed out? If not that may be the issue.

      Mel,
Like most reproduction parts, those caps "almost " work. Other than that they are a decent repro part. Here's how you make them fit. Take a piece of plate glass large enough to hold a wet sheet of 220 grit wet/dry sandpaper. Place the center cap on the sandpaper the and start sanding the bottom edge. Each cap will require approx. 10/15 minutes of sanding to remove enough metal for the three clips to snap into the groove in the spinner. Good luck when it comes time to remove them as they are easily damaged. All this is another reason I NEVER use the anti-theft pins. Bill

        Mel,

Which brand of knock offs did you buy in the end? Ones from AFC? Or from Top Flight/ Corvette America?

I just installed mine. You will need rubber mallet a little WD40 and a very small screw driver.
try and get one tab in the groove and place the tip of the screw diver on the side of the other tab, not on the tab, between the cap and mating part and give it a whack on that edge and it will pop right ii. A real nice tight fit in my eyes .
