    '54 C-1 ride height

My car sits high in the front end. I'm assuming I have after-market or the wrong coil springs. I noticed in Corvette Central's catalog they sell '53-'62 standard front springs. Will these springs correct my ride height, has anyone tried them? If so how does the car sit? Thanks.

    Brian,

Researched this for 56-7 and hopefully the same for your '54. Measurement from ground to the center of the headlights is 26 1/2 inches. The rear wheel well opening at the center, is also 26 1/2 inches from the ground.

Where are you measuring? What is this height?

Does rear sit too high as well?

        Thanks Guys:
The measurement from the wheel arc to the floor is 28 1/2" rear and 30" front. The back doesn't look bad but the front looks high. I also checked and the rear springs are original to the car.

I do not have measurements, but this is a photo of ours taken in the early eighties…when it was only thirty years old. It is on 6.70-15 tires.

Great picture that's exactly the stance I'm looking for. If you notice in my picture the front end looks high. I would like to try the reproduction springs if it will lower the front end. Has anyone had experience with the reproductions and if so how does it look?20220206_081937.jpg

                Brian,

Have you check to make sure the front coil springs are installed correctly? There's a ridge that the coil leading edge to butt up to. If a coil leading edge is installed on top, it'll raise the front end.

Also, your car in the photo appears to sit a little low in the rear.

Springs are installed correctly. When I measure the coils they are 5/8" thick. It seems a little excessive.

                    Brian,

As I understand it, the 53-8 front coil springs are all essentially the same. The '56-7 coil springs have 10 coils and are .55 inch diameter.

56-7 RPO 684 front coils springs are; .636 inch diameter with 8 coils.

Removed - Blueprint was for the 1956 SR coil springs.

Also found this info from the 1961 P&A - 1953-59 Corvette front coil spring - wire diameter .55 inch, 13 3/4 free height
