And if there is no key, be very careful that the tumblers don't come flying out as the cylinder comes out. Don't ask me how I know! Searching the floor for that tiny spring is very frustrating.

If you do have a key, and use your technique, you have the big advantage of keeping any unstaked tumblers and springs in place. With my technique, I too have had tumblers and springs leap out and in one case I never did find the spring which fell onto the carpet. Maybe the vacuum eventually sucked it up.

I just remembered that Rich Mozzetta has detailed instructions with photos for removing the push button from the 56-62 seat separator lock. The instructions are in the firm of a PDF in the Restoration Documents database:
The keys steps for removing the push button for the 56-62 lock apply to removing the push button in the glove box for 63-67, and for C3 storage compartment locks.
