What grease would you use when rebuilding the gear side of the C2 headlight motors?

Re: Head lamp headlight motor grease
The openings are correct. I've never seen one that wasn't this way. Based on the gearbox location it's hard to get water in them.
James
Thanks very much for your thoughts on this. I decided on Lucas White lithium.
I trust Lucas products.
I have another question about this.
I noticed the motors have openings in the cases that are open to the elements that allow moisture etc. to enter the gear box.
This can’t be correct can it?
What am I missing?

Re: Head lamp headlight motor grease
I agree, I wouldn't worry about those openings....the car would have to be nearly
submerged for water to migrate into the headlight motor casing...
I've neve opened up a motor and found one water contaminated.- Top

Re: Head lamp headlight motor grease
Well, I have done it.
When bringing my Dad's '54 and '63 to CA from GA, we got caught in a downpour while passing through Salt Lake City.
While I wouldn't enjoy getting caught in the rain again in the '54, if it happened while in the '63, it wouldn't be a big deal.- Top

Re: Head lamp headlight motor grease
Just rebuilt the motors in my 67 and the white grease (lubriplate ?) was like mud. Considering it took 55 years for that to happen the synthetic wheel bearing grease I used will long outlast me.
Another lesson I learned is indexing the slot in the motor with the headlamp housing in the closed position makes installation a lot less tricky.- Top

Re: Head lamp headlight motor grease
If you live in Florida an unexpected monsoon can sweep in with driving rain and be gone again in 45 minutes with a return to hot, steamy weather.
I've driven both my 61 and 63 in such conditions and the "baby breath" defrosters on the 61 are worthless and the wipers not much better.- Top
