    2014 LS3 catalytic convertor

I have a 2014 Z51 with an LS3, all original and stock. The right hand catalytic convertor has come apart and filled the resonator in the X pipe full, and the car won't run. The dealership wants $3507 to replace this. I have looked all over the internet and can't seem to find anyone that sells a replacement cat pipe for this car. Does anyone here know where I could find this, somewhat reasonably??

    Thanks,
    Todd

Todd, Try Contemporary Corvette in PA. They are a good source for C4-C6 parts.

Thanks Joe, this is a C7. Only 12,006 miles...but not under warranty, this is too early for something like this to happen.

remove the debris the cat created. an empty cat didn't affect the performance of our old ZR! after i removed the cat's contents. might be a tad illegal though. mike

          Todd.

I would double check on GM warranty. Federal requirements for that part should allow for replacement if vehicle is less than 8 years old from initial service date registered with the mileage you have on your 2014.
Also, on some non Corvette models there were cracking converter problems during 2013-2014 model year.
Talk directly to your service manager or zone manager.

          Good luck.

Yeah, I thought about doing that, but it will have to pass emissions testing, so that probably won't work.

Thanks Hugh, I have called GM customer service and they are looking into what can be done. They said they would call me back within an hour, and that was 3 hours ago. I will follow up with results..

I agree. The federally required emissions system warranty should still be effective. My recollection, though, is that that warranty is 7 years. So, depending on when your car was delivered, you could be close.

As Hugh stated, The clean air act states 8 years/80k miles for major components like cats and electronic controllers.

It used to be 7 years or 70,000 miles. I'm very glad they increased it to 8. The emissions warranty is a very important warranty as it covers all components related to vehicle emissions. That's a lot of components on modern cars and they are the very type of components that are failure-prone.

Joe, Yes thankfully for Todd. What I don't understand, or maybe I do... Is why didn't the dealer service manager see this also?

Todd, You should have a separate Warranty book in your documentation. Verify it's 8yr/80k miles. Then take it back to your dealer for review.

However, criteria states it must fail emissions tests for coverage to be applied. Since the car will not run due to the clogged exhaust, you may need to get the District warranty manager to get involved.

Also, if you get that call back from GM, have your warranty book handy.

                          Good luck.

If a GM pipe and converter is just under $500, how are they charging $3500 for replacement?

Hey guys, sorry for the delayed response. I placed a call with a GM customer service representative 7 days ago, and she created a claim, telling me she would get back to me within 2 hours with a response as to what GM was willing to do. I received no call back and I have called back for 5 days in a row, talked to 5 different people, and they all gave me the same runaround. Finally, I just got a call back from the initial person who started the claim, and she made it very clear that "There is no cost assistance on this failure due to the age of the vehicle and how long it has been out of warranty"... I explained how I have over $400,000.00 in GM vehicles sitting in my garage/driveway, and I was simply hoping GM would stand behind their product. She said she was sorry and understood my frustration. I asked if there was anything else that could be done, and she put me on hold and came back to tell me that GM would offer a OLC (Owners loyalty certificate) which would give me up to a 10% discount if I would buy a brand new never owned GM product that qualifies for this discount....REALLY?!?! I will go back at them with the information you all shared in the link about the 8 years and see what I get...
