    Re: 67 seat reupholstering

Just my personal 2 cents for what it is worth ... I had a professional auto interior shop that specialized in classic cars do my two '70 seats (central Connecticut). Not cheap, but .. i could not get over the comfort level I experienced with the new foam seats. Don't know if it was memory foam or not, but they were the most comfortable seats I have ever sat in in a classic sports car. I was like a little kid and kept wanting to sit in the driver's seat while it was parked in the garage just to keep experiencing that level of comfort over and over again.

In fairness, my old foam was starting to disintegrate, as there was a faint layer of "yellow dust" appearing on my black vinal seat covers every time I sat down and got back up.

Seat reupholstering was one of the few efforts that I did not tackle myself during my project. As Patrick indicated that he needed a helper to compress the seat, and with similar advice from others who have done it themselves, off to the upholstery shop they went.

Have fun and go slow with it!

Bill after years of raising kids building decks, garages, restoring cars I have discovered that my best mechanic is my wife Mary Kate. If we cant do the job then we hire out. so the same will happen with the seats. I am not saying she will be the seat compressor either !! My foam is squashed flat but not falling apart.

That's a good reason. I was only 6'0" when I could no longer fit in my 70 because of the new seat buns, but I think my 67 convertible has more head room.

Well thanks everyone for your input. I was able to cover the seat backs by using weight to compress the foam and safety wire to guide the clips through the located perforations in the new foam. The seat bottoms look like I will need to rent an elephant to get them installed. The Al Knock clips are already installed on the fabric but half of them do not line up with the perforations in the new foam. I am going to relocate the clips to line up with the perforations.

Buy an installation kit from Corvette Central - the clips are about 25% longer than the AK clips - they are not easy to install but it is at least possible to install them. I could not get the AK clips on the seat bottoms - I had the "special" tool used to hook & pull the clips through the foam - with all my weight on the seat - and pulling as hard as I could it was impossible to hook them as needed. In fact - I literally pulled about half the clips wide open - i.e. the clips failed. A comment in a thread I found in this forum recommended the CC clips - it worked. Good luck.

Ed thanks i will do that . Maybe double up for a year and let the foam settle. I am tempted to see what a seat drives like without the clips attached.
