    Re: 63 Hub Cap restoration

Just so everyone has info on the current costs to restore 63 Hub Caps. I have done many. If you can reuse your bars and spinners you are in great shape but most are pitted beyond use.

Dent removal and polishing $125 to $175 per pan. Average $600 for the set.
    New Repro Spinners. $200
New Bars. $200 per cap. $800 total

My math says $1600 for restoration not counting the cost of a used set and any shipping involved. Also, free labor to disassemble and assemble.

I'm not throwing a dig at you Frank, but $500 for a mint set is a thing of the past. Old world price....or should we say.....Old Town price.

Your absolutely correct Joe , lots of time involved to restore a set 63 Hub Caps.

        Danny,
They look great. I don't have the tools/machines to complete what you did here. My bars and spinners are not good. But Steve at Brightworks did a great job on my hubcaps themselves. I'll pick up the spinners and bars at a later date.

Do the recommended vendors in this post also do early frosted type? I would imagine that is a whole different ball game. When I purchased my used 63 it had an original set of frosted caps that were in very good, but not perfect condition. Then I found out they were incorrect for my VIN. Still have them.

                Tom,
Give Steve at Brightworks Restoration and talk to him about your frosted caps. He won't steer you wrong.

                  Re: 63 Hub Cap restoration

Just received a quote from Bill's Chrome on re-chroming my hubcap bars. His quote was $100.00 per bar and 4 months out.

                  Yikes.

                    Re: 63 Hub Cap restoration

I recall being at Bloomington in 1990, looking for a set of '63 hubcaps. There was a vendor there with about a dozen 40-gallon plastic trash cans - each stacked from bottom to top with nothing but '63 hubcaps. I looked throiugh the entire set - must of been over a 100 hubcaps, but never found a rim that wasn't dented. In 2020, I finally picked up a set for $800 off of ebay that the owner claimed to be NOS. They appear to be perfect.
