'63 Upper hiperf 3827368 repop hose too short

OK.... needed to replace my upper 340hp radiator hose and have now had TWO hoses sent to me (Both with Paragon Part label) that are roughly 2 - 3" too short. 3827368 on hose with blue stripe but too short.... see pictures

DOes anyone have an explanation or a vendor that might have the CORRECT length hose..... thanks, Lenny

Lenny, Your radiator is the issue. The hose and thermostat housing are correct. The outlet on your replacement radiator is not long enough.

LOL..... the EARLIER replacement hoses were long enough and the radiator has been in the vehicle > 20 years..... first hose that was too short.... smile.... witness the worn hose pictured alongside the OLD one......that was a 3827368 repro hose..... so.... SOMETHING has changed and although my radiator in my "Resto Mod" may not be "correct" (but it sure cools great), up until NOW the hoses were long enough.... not shure what has happened to make the 3827368 hoses shorter!!

          Thanks Gary,

That is kinda what I am thinking has happened..... I HAD a "known" older repro on my car.... see pictures.... you can see that it was the "correct" hose with GM part # and blue stripe.... and you can see how much longer it is than the current crop of 3827386 hoses from Paragon..... if I can locate a new older "too long" version I will buy it.... smile... otherwise I guess I can have a longer top outlet welded to my high performance after market radiator that works jus fine..... LOL.....Lenny

My 1983 GM parts book calls for hose # 3777482 (fits 63-65 w/FI,SP, H/ Per) exc. 396. Does not mention hose # 3827368, back in the late 70's thu early 80's, I purchased hoses from my local Chevy dealer and received both part number hoses, some still have the brown card attached to them. So when did they change over? and if # 3777482 is in parts book why does JRM only list # 3827368 as the upper hose?

              Lenny,
Order one from the good Doctor. His stuff has always been the best. The picture of your original (longer) hose looks exactly like what he has pictured.

Yeh.... mystery to me but all the supply houses list 3827368 as the OEM # and when I search on 3777482 it list fitment as '60-'61 not '63

Heard from Doc.... here is his response..... turns out it is a known issue to him..... stay tuned as I try to purchase two of them.... smile... Lenny

I am aware of the repeated threads concerning a short repro 63-65 Hiper upper hose from other sources. We have sold a different hose. It is a genuine GM USA manufactured hose we purchased directly from the GM for decades. I had additional help finding many parts with access to the actual GM computers for warehousing & distribution.

This hose is a sore spot with me as it is with others. I have a NOS alligator hose that is too short. I paid a lot of money for it years ago.
This past Corvette Carlisle I had it in my vendor trailer but could not sell it as that would be dishonest.
When I cleaned out the trailer after the show I almost threw the hose in the garbage. Worthless. John

NEVER did I dream that Paragon (that evidently makes most of the repop variety available from most vendors, including CA, Zip etc.) decided to shorten them by about 2"..... I have an early '63 hiperf and want the smooth with blue stripe but am having a devil of a time finding one. I included an email from Doc above that he will be able to stamp/stripe a genuine GM hiperf upper hose for me soon.... heck, I am going to order two to have a spare.....

While doing my research on the subject I found this old thread..... verrrrry interesting...... Blue Stripe Radiator Hose (ncrs.org)

BTW.... talking to ZIP, they still have not gotten all the LIC inventory into their possession yet so there is some hope THEY had the longer version in their trove......smile.... Lenny

After reading this thread I had to go to the garage and inspect the original hose on my SWC. I knew it had some faded ink stamp but no blue stripe. I assumed heat, age, and various cleaners and protectants had worn these markings off. After careful inspection, I discovered that the GM stamp with the part number was at the thermostat end of the hose and a very faded blue stripe ran the length of the hose but was underneath so as not to be visible unless you used a mirror to see it. Is this common?

Hummmmn Perry.... I would think this was UNCOMMON.... maybe it was installed bass ackwards as EVERY item I have seen relates to the GM AU stamp being on the radiator end.... but.... I never rule out ANYTHING.... lol.....

The more I dig into this, the more I find that almost every vendor gets their supply of this hose from Paragon.... and their repops are ~17" these days vs. the older ones that were ~18.5-19" long.... the 17" version simply does not fit my application.... Lenny
