    Going rate for car transport?

    Hey guys,
I may, pending an inspection, be having a car transported from Illinois to me in Florida. Am curious what the going per mile rate is for transport? I haven't had a car shipped in a few years. Any insight would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance. ARA

Good lord, that's about $2 per mile. Is that what the rate is up to now? WOW....Thanks for the post. Any other examples would be appreciated. Thanks Jimmy....ARA

I've just paid $1,200 to the NCRS Official transporter company for enclosed transport from CT to NC (660 mi) which will occur real soon.

One has to realize that there is a national heavy rig driver shortage, with significant backlog in scheduling a transport. And no last minute "I need it there on a specific date" available from any of the popular transporters.

I had my 65 L78 Roadster hauled from Portland Oregon to North/Central AZ by Reliable in late 2019 and the cost for the 1250 mile trip was $2066 or roughly $1.68 a mile.
Just a couple months ago, I needed to have a 66 L72 Roadster shipped from The Villages in Florida again to North/Central AZ and the quote from Reliable was $2170 for the 2100 mile trip which comes out to $1.03 per mile.
Lotsa factors involved, the route, time of year, etc, so I don't think it's easy to compare based on per mile charges.

Plus diesel fuel here in my neck of the woods is $3.19 a gallon, so the expense has got to be passed on to somebody, us!

Hi Ara. FWIW, I paid a little more than $1.60/mile in January when I had a car moved from Kissimmee to just north of Charlotte. This was in an enclosed trailer.

              Hope this helps.

I used Intercity to ship my car 600 miles enclosed from Pennsylvania to Indiana for roughly $1100 dollars in July 2020.

Had 3 cars shipped in the past 2 weeks. One from Minneapolis to Venice, FL open transport $950. Two from Venice, FL to Minneapolis, together, enclosed transport $1,900, or $950 each.

Thanks gentlemen. Appreciate the info and facts. Will see if the car checks out with it's PPI and then gauge the shipping. Super appreciate it guys. ARA

Re: Going rate for car transport?

I've only used a transporter service once years ago and remember there was a price premium for "no load/unload" (in other words your car isn't moved from the transporter until it arrives). Something to consider since that's when the risk of damage is high.

Do some companies have GPS monitoring of their trucks? I've been passed several times by loaded transporters while driving 70+ mph on the interstate. Always a white knuckle experience.

I saw these photos on corvetteblogger.com but I'm sure you don't have anything to worry about.

Just a thought...... does your car insurance cover the car while being transported by a carrier???? Or is the insurance included in the transport costs??? which then asks how much coverage is included, especially on these collector cars.....

                            Mark,
I could have gone without those pics. LOLOLOLOLOL

                            Steve,
The PPI is today, so if the car checks out i will call my insurance company and go over the details. I have Hagerty so it shouldn't be a problem. The carrier i may be using are well knows, PLYCAR, and come highly recommended. The insurance is a big deal, so i will fully inform myself before pulling the trigger.
                            Thanks gents

Ron, i hear you drive too fast for me to let you bring it home to me if the deal works out. LOL
                            Thanks to all....will keep posted...

                              I seriously reccomend written verification.

If it clearly isn't specified, there can be issue to recover in the event of a claim, getting it in-writting up front - is the insurance.

                              Ara,
Non big block C2 front ends get a bit light above 110 so we'll keep it on the ground!
