Chris, I'll do that after judging.

I bought a 71 new (Chevelle) when my 64 Impala SS convertible was stolen. At 30k miles a rear-end howl necessitated a rear end change. We drove it 200,000+ miles and sold it because the 307 was very tired. The rear end was the only issue we had to deal with. Everything fit and worked. Not sure how it escaped the factory in such good shape.
On the other side of the coin, I worked the differential assembly line at Dana Corporation summer 1969. The other summer replacement on the line put positraction tags on 160 open rear ends that were later installed in mopars as posi rear ends.

Was he intentionally being a prankster ? - or was he just bored into unconsciousness ?

Bored to death. His job was easy. Mine was dropping the carrier into the case, measuring what shims were needed on each side, dropping it all back in and tightening the caps. Constant small cuts from the machined cast iron edges. Too dangerous to use gloves.

My wife's new 77 Orange had the driver door jam painted black, passenger was painted orange. The bottom of the right rear fender was raw glass, no paint ever applied.

Surprisingly the options all worked properly, and it was a full option Corvette.

OMG James, your saying the Dealer delivered this car to you like that?...
                  If so, that's obscene! Inexcusable!

FWIW - in my time in production assembly plant paint booths, I saw MANY defects all along the entire length of the lowest portions of the body panels...and that's because (depending on how the conveyor was set in the booth) painters had to bend over to cover the lower reaches of what they were required to paint...
and thus, the guys in the repair booths had to fix them...guess yours skipped the repair booth, eh?
                  thx,
                  Mark

The dealer repainted the rear quarter completely. But we never corrected the door jams. Grandson has the car today.

I found another 50 year old inherent flaw with the operations side of this car. I know that the picture I've attached will only make sense to those that have monkeyed around with the switch that turns off the console "Headlight" warning light. This switch taps a metal boss that causes the switch to cut off the power to the dash light. Both headlights have this switch and both have to be pressed to shut off the "Headlight" warning light. The way the hole was set into the bracket on the drivers side of my car never allowed the switch to press against the metal boss to shut the switch off. The switch on the passenger side is configured so the switch is closer to the metal boss and operates fine. To test, I placed a small piece of masking tape on metal boss to make up for some of the clearance and the dash warning light went off fine. My dilemma is how to move this switch closer to the metal boss. The switch seems to be fixed so there's no way to make an adjustment. Another factory error? I'm sure this has never functioned properly on this car.

Leave the tape on through Operations and PV. Remove before judging. Reinstall for the next operations and repeat as needed.

                          My thoughts exactly, Terry.

                          Thank you.
