This looks just like the picture in the TIM&JG as well as my 1970 & 1971 both of which have their original exhaust systems. I would expect 1972 to be the same.

Fred, Your clamps aren't like originals, but are probably the best you can find. I do not think the flat strap clamps are reproduced.

Re: 72 LT1 renovation question re: exhaust clamps

Lenny's pictures jogged my memory. I failed to note that the rear clamps, for the chrome extensions, have the flat in the top of the loop on my cars. The flattened part of the loop has a letter on it on my 1970. I don't recall that letter at this time, but the TIM&JG may provide some guidance. I haven't had the 1971 long enough to have inspected that part. You have given me some items to look for on my next visit to it.

Lenny's picture of the center clamp is not like I have, but since my cars are years earlier all I can say is I have seen that style of clamp before on other cars. It may be a mistake to think that all these clamps have to be exactly the same. Different years and different suppliers may account for slightly different configurations. The style of clamp, guillotine at the back and double connection at the middle, may be all that is required from an engineering point of view. I think it is time for more research.

At one time I think Paragon Corvette use to sell the clamps, they were zinc plated but not sure there were from the factory ?. I put them on my 72.

Re: 72 LT1 renovation question re: exhaust clamps

I appreciate all the great responses. I have a 2 1/2" exhaust clamp GM 3633481, however it doesn't have the flatten part in the loop. I'm incline to use these for the center connection, I have similar 2" clamps I plan to use for the exhaust tip connection. Hopefully the judging consequences aren'tNOS clamp 1.jpg too sever.

                      Fred,

The Center Exhaust clamps top portion I believe is flat and similar in configuration to the ones attaching the exhaust tips. For 70 - 71 The center clamp top part is differently shaped.

Ron, I'm sure you are correct. Lenny's photos I believe confirm it. As of now I have not been able to resource for the 72 style correct center exhaust clamp, I'm in the process of installing a welded muffler LT1 Corvette Central exhaust system and the center clamps they supply do not have the flatten loop configuration.

Hi Edward, in researching exhaust tip clamps (2") it appears Paragon offers the correct flat loop style. thanks for the exhaust tips

                            Correct.

You may have to change the finish on them, but the configuration is essentially correct.
