Main leaf rear spring 1959 C1

    Dear Friends,
Trying to curl the main leaf of the rear spring with a hand press, I split one.
Do you think it's possible to find another one with a groove?
    Thank you for your help.
    Patrick

Probably not too many in France, just curious were you heating the spring when bending it?

        Dear Terry,
I gave the leaves to a painter for sanblasting and epoxy and when I read the forum about rear springs, I have learned it was possible to bend the leaves. I try to do that without heating to avoid epoxy damage and obtain a good result for 3 leaves but a disaster for one!20210524_225126.jpg20210524_225150.jpg

Patrick, Where is the split or break?

Based on your lower photo, the wear on that leaf from its adjoining leaf is extreme. Did it split there?

            Richard,
The main split is at 24cm and the 2 others more distal at 10cm20210526_212053.jpg20210526_212111.jpg20210526_212121.jpg20210526_212129.jpg and the leaf is still twisted.
The first 3 was correct with 4 ton of pressure and this one broke at 2! (on the hand press)

Patrick, I see much porosity under the epoxy coating. I'm afraid those were not good candidates for cold press re-arcing like I've done in the past.

And a closer look tells me as I thought... Near that thin worn area from the other spring.

Do you have photos before the coating? A moot point at this time but it may help understand why they cracked.

PS let me check around to help you find a replacement. I know you're far away but maybe we can help over here.

                Patrick,

Suggest you might want to contact Rob in the Dutch Chapter https://www.ncrs.nl/?nlanguage=UK or Tom in the UK Chapter http://www.ncrsuk.com/ to see if they know of anyone that might have a C1 spring.

                    Rich,
Thank you for your reply: unfortunately, I've no photo before coating.
If you find a main leaf, thank you for telling me.
                    Have a good WE
