1964-1965 327 Engine Harness Lectric Limited VIG6465 Pink vs. Black/Purple Coil Wire

LL part number VIG6465 (instruction sheet INS8346) shows a "Black/Pink: "R" Terminal attachment at the starter solenoid. This wire routes to and from the COIL (+), on its way to the ballast resistor . I believe this wire should be pink. (In fact, the instruction sheet says "pink" at the coil end.)

    What am I missing here?

    Thanks.

    64 R to + coil is B/P
    65 R to + coil is P
Note the 64AIM has the 65 wiring diagram

I just went through that on my 396 I’m working on. From my research there was a first and second design engine wire harness, the black/pinkwire became pink in the later style harness. My research involved other 396’s but you description sounds similar. I purchased a NOS engine harness that had a pink wire where the black/pink one was plus there was some other wire color changes. Non of the wire diagrams indicate the changes. I did some continuity checks before I installed it and everything checked out. It starts and runs with no smoke or fried wires.

The change of the wiring diagram occurred on July 14, 1965, so in the middle of a month when 1309 64 cars were being built.
Then the 65 cars got produced starting in Aug however only 227 were built.

Tom, I had to deal with this on a '64 I had recently had. The '64 is in fact black with pink stripe. One leads through the firewall at the ballast resistor and connects to one of the terminals. A second black and pink leads from the ballast resistor to the coil and then from the coil down to the R terminal on the starter. The prior owner had installed a HEI coil bypassing the ballast resistor. The black and pink wire running from the coil to the starter was totally fried.
