Is Sealant Recommended on Heat Riser Valve Gasket?

Is sealant recommended on the gasket between the heat riser valve and exhaust manifold? I am working on a 70 big block.

    Thanks,
    Allen

Never heard of any type of sealant on any heat riser valve...small block or big block.

You are using the flat, triangular gasket made for the joint, right? The only time I'd use sealant is if the mating parts were particularly pitted such that the sealant was to fill the pits to aid the flat gasket with a tight seal.

        Hi Allen,

On the few I've installed I didn't use a sealer, and didn't have any problems.

        How's the '70 coming along?

          Thanks for the replies.

Mark, it is coming along slowly. I am about done with the chassis and am going to work on the engine compartment next. I am happy how everything looks, but I tend to do a lot research and waiting on parts to arrive. Thanks for asking.
