    1963 #091 coil tab question

Is there a source for purchasing the small tab at the top of the original #091 coil. I have one, but one of the tabs is missing as indicated in the attached picture. I'm also looking to get it tested one of these days.

I assume there is a source somewhere for new ones, but many swap meet and junk yard Delco coils from multiple makes and models have them.

        Gerold,

I am not aware of any tests for the coil, just put it on the car and see how it preforms. I bought a used 091 years ago for my 63 and the car would hardly run. Installed a NAPA IC-12 and all is good.

          Tim

I have a replacement coil #091 from Delco Remy. I didn't want the deduction of not having the original coil. I just may take the hit.

          Thanks,

          Jerry

            Jerry,

If it's one of those reproduction coils make sure you carry a spare just in case.

Gerald, The original 091's are very scarce and also major bucks.
The repros won't pass judging a tthe big shows you know.

Options are this. Use a known good Delco-Remy coil. See the Judging Standards on point deduct. I think it's 50%.
Or go buy a NOS '087 but remember to change the ballast resistor to suit and also get a deduct. Most important is how the car runs.
