Re: Parts Book Effective Spring of 1964
If the GM #3871308 ever actually existed, it was never available as a SERVICE part.
You raise one of my question regarding the 3871308 AIM hammer. What might be different about what may be a production line only part number from 3859067 which was available in service before and after the 1965 "308" hammer.
I also wonder why the the Oct '64 parts book lists two different part number hammers for two year ranges.
Without even looking at any P&A catalogs issued between October, 1964 and October, 1965 I can tell you which part numbers were shown. In any P&A catalog issued between October, 1964 and June 30, 1965, both part numbers will be shown. In any P&A catalog issued between July 1, 1965 and October, 1965 only the 3859067 will be shown.
In case you're wondering if the 3871308 was shown in catalogs between those dates, it will not be as it was never available in SERVICE.
So, how do the 3859067 and 3871308 differ. I know not. It's quite possible that the 3871308 was a "stillborn" part number, never actually released for PRODUCTION, despite what it says in the AIM's.
