    64 L84 Coupe shop find

I am spending a little time on the 64 today. The tires came in, so I got those mounted and balanced. I am going to install my new Dewitt's radiator (once I patina paint it), change the heater core, and take a look inside the fuel unit to see what surprises lurks in there.

A good friend of mine convinced me to try to fire the engine, rather than just pull it all apart. Changing the oil, and having a look around to see what else I find.

If I need to pull it apart, no biggie (I was planning on it anyways).

It looks as though we have found Mr. Walter Vail. He has my contact information and will be reaching out (thanks Don!)

I'll be pulling the engine apart as I found a couple of things I was not comfortable with. Also found out one of cylinder heads is not original (assuming a warranty head given the date). By the end of the week I should have it hanging from the chain. After that, I can get the antenna replaced, the fuel tank, and get after rewiring the car.

      Tim,
The pinched purple wire in the second photo. Is that where you found it?
That is a beautiful car! The 1964 Motor Trend test car was a twin.
      Kind regards

          Tim,

Simply a beautiful example my favorite subset, the fuel injected C2's.

Does that '65 master cylinder suggest disk brakes have been retrofitted?

Thanks for taking us along on your adventure.

Drums all the way around. I cannot speculate why that is there. Perhaps it's just what was bought along with the brake line to accommodate it.

Got after the 64 again today starting to get things tore down some more (waiting for parts on another car).

The infamous wire pigtail in the port witness mark....

What looks to be the original water pump? If I remember correctly, there was a period in time they were not dated?

Glad I elected to just take it apart.....

              Junk original radiator.....

I suspect this is a bit outdated. Ironically, for the car last registered in 77, this alarm is dated 1982

Original 326 WP with no date, and 1/2" top outlet would be correct. (except for those who believe 326 came out in 65) But the back originally did not have reinforcement around perimeter if I'm not mistaken. Bubba has been in there, as we see a hardware store bolt at 1 o'clock. I think the back plate was replaced. That water passage looks nasty..

When the wheels were off were they stamped with a date in the backs? No date stamps? Or were there remains of ink stamped dates?

                      Dan,

There was nothing discernible in the form of stamps aside from the KH casting marks

Which may indicate they originally had ink stamped dates that have weathered away. I believe that would be typical of original '64 and early '65 KO's. Does the jack compartment have the KO jacking instructions or the steel wheel jacking instructions?

The driver side exhaust manifold appears to have a choke tube provision, is that correct?
