Noob doing a 65 frame off restoration

I think I got it. Photo, bag and tag, forget where you put it.

This 65 L79 coupe was to be a good friends next Vette. We finally bought it for our next Vette. After some hunting for part numbers this one has most of her born with components. Most common expendables have been replaced. My plan is keeping the car as OEM without compromising reliability. Correct color, trim, carpet, engine (no leaks or smoke), wheels and tires.

The C2 records of parts and stories are priceless. Making the search for any part a journey. Including posting pictures here..

PartsFor Restoration.jpgFrameOffBody.jpgGood luck, great fun, keep the parts organized as you pull them off, and be careful with sliding the frame out from under it......

                Steve,

You're correct in stating that you're going to disassemble, tag and bag it. You'll never remember where everything goes even a month from now. I've restored a few midyears and this forum is a great resource for you. I would also recommend buying the JM for your car as it to is a great resource.

                Welcome!

Not just a judging manual - get an AIM, and when you remove a part, the tag you place in the bag with the part should list the AIM page, item & part #, this will be a great help when re-assembling or finding a quality replacement part months from now.

I was in your shoes a few years ago and its a lot of fun. In addition to the AIM, Chassis manual, and Judging manual, take a ton of pics with your phone and SAVE them! A year from now you'll thank yourself!

This is one of the best pieces of information or suggestions you could put to use...
I typically write the part number of everything which goes in the bag after being disassembled - nuts bolts screws etc. If the finish is not readily apparent I try to figure that out and write it down as well.

Looks like a nice Nassau Blue Coupe it appears the interior is Blue as well...

You can't take too many pictures. Since digital photos are free, take far more than you think you will need. It still won't be enough.

Note the finish on an item when you remove it, whether it is a screw, bolt, bracket, etc. Put this info on the bag as well as in your AIM copy.

Yeah well posting pics is an art form here. Ya'll will just have to turn your laptops. The car is pretty much a shell right now. Looking to get the body off for paint soon. Lots of bubba work to cleanup. I'm surprised this one even ran 15 years ago. My biggest project will be the wiring. I have an engine and taillight replacement harnesses in hand. Now I'm looking for some color diagrams that will help me ringout circuits and components. Any suggestions? Also whats with removing the ignition switch nut? How is this accomplished with out destroying the nut or switch?

                              Steve,

Search the Internet on how to keep your photos from rotating according to what type of smart phone - iPhone or Android and you'll find out how to keep your photos from rotating.
