I always thought the drain plug was on at paint but I came across this picture. The restorer might have just wanted some touch for a non judged vehicle. Thank you in advance. Jeff 26AB3279-6645-4FBA-BCEB-DFA51CE56893.jpg

Re: Oil Drain Bolt
Jeff------
All 1968-82 were 9/16" head. Drain plugs were painted with the engine. Original PRODUCTION drain plug was GM #3921988 and was unfinished natural steel. Original SERVICE plug was GM #3923420 and was zinc plated. No GM plug was black phosphate as the one pictured. In any event, it does not matter as the plug is painted with the engine and finish of the plug, thus, becomes "irrelevant".
By the way, the GM #3923420 was discontinued from SERVICE in April, 1990 and replaced by the GM #3921988, the original PRODUCTION plug which remains available to this day.In Appreciation of John Hinckley- Top
