    1969 Alarm Switch Backing Plate

The UA6 alarm system was neutered by a previous owner but the horn, wiring, hood switch and relay/flasher bracket are all still in place. The rear taillight panel was replaced circa 1978 and the alarm switch was not replaced. Sourcing a new wiring harness and other missing parts is not proving to be problematic - except for the backing plate that supports the key switch. It appears on UPC UA6 - A4 in the AIM. Part # 3937672.

It appears to be nothing more than a steel plate about 3"x5" with a 13/16" hole drilled in the center. However, I have been unable to find a picture or example of this plate. Any information or pictures you have would be appreciated.

    Thanx

I think the plate was pretty much as you described. It was once available in SERVICE but was discontinued without supersession in May, 1979.

Re: 1969 Alarm Switch Backing Plate

Thanx Joe. I'm hoping someone with a '69 and RPO UA6 will be willing to help me out. I could really use a picture from the backside that shows the backing plate and a picture of the switch from behind the car that clearly shows the location of the switch. The AIM indicates that a 13/16" hole is to be drilled centered on the rear valance and 5.90" up from the top of the license plate cutout. But I would really like to get some pictures before I start drilling a hole in my car.

It will have to be someone else besides me. Why? When I ordered my 1969 new I did not order the alarm system? Why? Primarily because I did not want the switch installed on the rear panel.

Yeah - I'm not crazy about the idea, but it's obvious the car originally had UA6 installed. Besides, back in '69, that option would have set you back $26.35! That would about $186.62 in 2020.
