    C2 Chassis Dolly Plans

The body is off of my 63 and wanted to be able to move the chassis around once the suspension and rear end parts are removed. Does anyone have any plans for a dolly that they've used in the past?

    Thanks

Gerald ---- I have a steel body dolly that has been used on a 67 coupe, a 67 convertible and a 65 convertible. You can have if you want. I am in the Washington D.C. area.

        Tom,

Thanks. But this plan is for a body dolly and I'm looking for something for the chassis.

Go to Harbor Freight and purchase some "equipment" movers for about $10 ea. They are even "padded"

                  Gerry:
I had one that I used. I looked and do not have dimensions, but have included pictures. I picked up at the front lower radiator mounting bolt holes, and two holes under the rear crossmember. I put it on standoffs to paint the frame, and then can put it down on the pads of the mounting frame. It makes it easier to install things with the frame elevated. I gave this one away last week. Hope this helps!

These are exactly what I used. What I did find however was that it was better to use only three, two at the rear and one under the center of the front crossmember. Three points of contact will keep them under the chassis better than four for an uneven surface. I found that when on occasion I pushed it outside to make room with four under it one of them would usually slip out when going over the threshold to the driveway. That did not happen with three. You could actually get away with only two because I also found that I could move it around quite easily with only two near the rear before the kickup and by just leaning on the rear end to lift the front off the ground. In addition I have found them quite convenient now that the wheels are back on the chassis but the body is still sitting on its dolly.

Thank You for that inspiration Tom...
What a brilliant little set up, perfect way to work on a frame/chassis build out.
I am going to show this to a couple of people I know.

If you folks would like, I could model this up and provide drawings so someone could make one up.

                            Thomas,

Plans would be great. I would like to take a stab at making a frame dolly. I have attached a picture of my engine run stand, made this last year. If placing the pictures here is out of line, I will delete. Thanks Frank

                              Tom,
if you could find the time, I would certainly like to see the drawings/sketches with dimensions and material used in the build. I think that would be great if you can...!

                              Take care,
