Re: 1969 How to get hood open

I have a copy of bulletin 71-I-11 mentioned earlier. The file is too large to post here. I can send a copy to whomever wants one. I don't have my 70-2 TIGJM on hand, but I thought it was in it.

Here is the bulletin. The tool is pictured full size. In case it does not print out correctly, the dimensions are shown.

          Mark, Jeff, Terry, Richard Thanks!

Its going on the lift today. Ill be sure to close the loop here for the benefit of all early C3'ers with the same problem.

This will make an excellent technical archive to help everyone in the same conundrum.

Is this tool really needed along with punching out the rubber plug?

I've never done this, but several YT videos suggest an easier way is to remove the fender splash shield and reach up from below. And for 70-72, either side can be reached by removing the fender grill. This may be trickier for big block or AC cars (right side).

Id say its good to be armed with as many tools as possible before surgery.

We got it open in 2 minutes while it was on the lift.
The cable wasn't installed correctly at the driver side latch and had pulled out.

Ill close the loop here after I get the full story from the mechanic.
Ill compile all the info from this thread in one spot for the next guy. Maybe it can be made into a sticky for 68-69 cars.
