    Re: C2 Half Shaft Flange

Thanks for all the information. I committed to a purchase of the universal half shaft flanges with Dana. I found a source that was able to cross reference the GM 360913. Parts in stock expect to receive the parts next week. I will post the results.

Also the second design is less likely to "bend" when installing a new U-joint, but if it does a sharp rap with a BFH on the mating side can straighten it and loosen up a tight U-joint.

The "depressions" you mention are found on the third design flange, GM #360918. This was used in PRODUCTION from 1975 to 1979 and became SERVICE for 1963-74. The 1963-only flange was GM #3832048. The L1963-74 flange was GM #3843018. This flange was forged and was of internal GM manufacture. It did not have the "depressions".

I have NOS examples of all of these flanges and would post photos of them but my back just can't get used to the idea of me trying to get at those group 5 tote bins.

        Re: C2 Half Shaft Flange

You are doing this correctly, by using new parts, in my opinion.
Most of the used ones have the same issue you have, they are bent.
Once I brought a mandrel to a swap meet to check for good used flanges.
I must have inspected twenty of them and they were all bent to various degrees.
Some center-lines where off by as much as an eight inch.

I have the 63 flanges on my car but I am always careful about my driving and inspect them often.
I also run stock or 205 tires, nothing any wider that could put additional loading on them.
If I ever make a driver out of the 63 I will immediately change out the flanges.
Remember, if they fail you will not coast to a stop! The flanges are part of the suspension as well as the drive train.
A factory set up like this would be impossible in today's highly litigated society.
If there are any examples out there I haven't found them.

          Hi Rich
Yes my thought as well best to buy new devices and at least avoid flanges that may be bent. I expect to receive the units early next week. I bought them from Bull Industries located in Tenn. The support flange to be used as part of the installation is from Volunteer. This suggestion I had gotten from Joe in any earlier post. We shall see how all this works out.

I installed the new half shaft flanges and universal joints. All went well as did the drive test. No issues. Thanks all for help. It is always appreciated.
