    C2 Half Shaft Flange

I am looking at replacing both of my C2 half shaft flanges. I noticed that Paragon sells these flanges and wondering if anyone has experience with their flanges. In addition how these flanges might compare to the originally installed flanges. Are there any better choices then the Paragon units?

No I have a early63 and the issue is that one of my flanges that support the universal is slightly bent and rather than attempting to straighten the flange I am looking to buy new flanges.

If you're referring to the early 1963 universal joint flange, that flange was GM #3832048. It was manufactured of ductile cast iron and had a thicker cross section than the later forged piece of GM #3843018 which replaced the 3832048 for SERVICE in March, 1966.

The GM #3843018 was used for L63 through 1974. It was replaced by the 1975-79 PRODUCTION piece, GM #360913, in November, 1975. The latter is also a forged piece manufactured by Dana-Spicer. It's also now GM-discontinued but available from Spicer dealers.

I do not recommend using the original GM #3832048. It's weaker than the replacement forged pieces. Also keep in mind that GM did not go to the 3843018 after less than a year because the 3832048 worked just as good.

Thank you for the detail on the evolution of the joint flange. I do not know the origin of the Paragon flange since only their part number shows in their catalog. Some years back I had picked up several flange pieces that were reconditioned but again there are no part numbers on these flanges.Looks like the safe bet is to buy the units from Spicer. I will give them a call and see if I can purchase two of the 360913 flanges.
          I appreciate the help.

I called West coast supplier of Spicer parts but neither part number, GM360913 or the universal half shaft flange for my 63 vett is carried by this supplier. They indicated some years back they did supply this component but no longer. By chance do you have any other supplier that might carry this part.
            Thanks again

There are many for sale on eBay, either NOS, used, or reproduction.

I am looking into sources on ebay plus I picked up additional possible source from a local contact. I will get back and post what I find and finally how they fit when purchased and installed.

                    Thanks to all

Here are the two flanges: Original 63 on the top. If you want the original, just PM an offer, I don’t have a use for it.

The bottom flange appears to be a GM #360918 which was used in PRODUCTION from 1975-79 and SERVICE for 1963-74.

The '63 flange is cast versus forged for the replacement. Notice the "depressions" at the top and bottom of the replacement flange. These prevent U-joint grounding that can be a problem with the first design cast flange. Also the second design is less likely to "bend" when installing a new U-joint, but if it does a sharp rap with a BFH on the mating side can straighten it and loosen up a tight U-joint.
