The waffle pattern on the negative side of the battery is the cause for not working. So put this in the back of your mind that the battery needs to be smooth. No matter the p/n is 2032, it has to be smooth, waffle is NG.

    THANK YOU AGAIN RICH.........
Susan, Glad it worked out to be a simple solution. Many folks have had that same issue, as I did. I truly don't understand why the problem exhibits itself with that crosshatch pattern on the batteries. Clearly it causes a poor connection.

They really should put a special note in the Owners Manuals not to use them.

Can you tell us which brand battery you purchased that did not have the cross hatch pattern?

The Energizer does not have the waffle pattern on the negative side and works fine in the fob. I don’t know what it is about the one’s with a waffle pattern that prevents it from working. The Chevy dealer said all the batteries they had DO NOT have the waffle pattern. Be aware that #2032 battery are sold with and without the waffle pattern under the same 2032 number. I never ran into this issue before on other fobs but then I never was aware of the hard to discern waffle pattern be it present or not.

The waffle pattern prevents good electrical contact between the battery and the fob. There is not enough surface contact to carry the current necessary to operate the fob. It is just like the car's battery with poor terminal connection (corroded). The starter will click, but not turn.
