    Gas prices

The cost for gas here in Detroit at Costco is now $.89 a gallon. When I first got my Corvette in 1971 I was paying $.30 a gallon. According to the CPI Inflation Calculator our current price equates to 1/2 of that-$.15 a gallon. Did you ever think that we would ever see that price again? Of course I would rather be paying $4 a gallon and not have this awful situation we are in. I'm really bored here! Everyone stay safe!!!

Gas prices have dropped like a rock most everywhere, here is a graph of gasoline demand in the US since 1991, you can see there has never been anything like this in history.......

Here in the Sierra Nevada of the People's Republik, gas has plummeted to $2.99/gallon and diesel is all the way down to $3.69.

Gas prices in Southeast Tenn range from $1.19 to $1.49 for regular. I agree with Frank that once Americans can come out of hibernation that demand will increase and those low prices / gal will vanish.

              Jim------

Yes, in the SF bay area the price is still around $3.00 per gallon. I've even seen some places that are at $3.49. What really concerns me is that when the price of oil starts going back up, they'll start ratcheting the price up from these prices.

In 1965 the price of oil was about $3.00/barrel. Adjusted for inflation to the present that comes out to about $25.00 a barrel. Oil is currently at about $23/barrel. So, adjusted for inflation it's actually slightly cheaper today than it was in 1965.

We are going to endure a lot of pain when things start moving again and Russia the Saudi's settle their p***ing contest. Many of the shale oil producers will be bankrupt, drilling has pretty much stopped in the shale oil basin, and many well pumps have been idled. Enjoy while you can.

What? Why not get excited about it? I've got nothing, and I mean NOTHING else to get excited about.

Around here (SE Michigan), gas prices were tanking prior to the house arrest.

                          Re: Gas prices

And when you think further it gets even more bizarre: In Michigan the tax on a gallon of gas is about 40 cents. That means that they are getting 49 cents in SALES on every gallon. How do you pay the rent with this? You are all right that the prices will go up when the supply chain tightens and demand goes up and Dick's point about the loss of American oil is well put. Our oil industry needs $40 a barrel to make production profitable or they will shut down. But it does make for an interesting conversation.

$2.19 in the communist republic of Dutchess County New York. I just hope this price does not cause our oil producers to shut down and never open back up. China has won the war without firing a shot. Make the world sick and then sell us the remedy. Ughh!!!
