Sorry I'm late to the party. This is a collection of barrel valves/anti drip valves that I have collected over the years. Some black, some black & white, some white & black, some with big nipples, some with small nipples, plus a NOS /service replacement. In 2013 when I was preparing my '70 for PV, I was having trouble with the anti drip valves continually leaking through. So I took one apart to see how it was made, and I found that only one side had a check ball in it. After visiting with Gary Bosselman, he asked me to send it to him so he could take it to the Florida regional to discuss with other C3 experts. I know that Stan F and Terry Mc and maybe others discussed this valve and how it is suppose to work. If I remember correctly, the conclusion of these experts was that this check valve was suppose to prevent the fluid from sucking back to the washer pump on the suction stroke. These valves do not prevent the fluid from running out of them, thus they are not anti drip valves. I passed my PV later that year with 2 large puddles under the headlights. Maybe Gary or Terry will remember more about their discussion in Florida and can chime in. I typed this as Dallas Keller dictated this to me, so this is Dallas' post.

Thanks. That's good information. I thought that the GM #4919991 MIGHT be the part in question but the information I had was too sketchy for me to confirm that or "go out on a limb" and declare that was the part number. Obviously, the 4919991 is the part in question.

The 4919991 is applicable to 1970-71 Corvettes. However, the 1969 valve had a different part number. It was GM #4919503. I'm sure there had to be some difference besides color between the two valves. In fact, that's one of the things that confused me when I noted that the 4919991 was only applicable to 70-71. I figured it could not be the part in question since it was not also applicable to 1969 which I thought would have used the same valve. Now I know why; the 1969 valve was of a different part number.

Both the 4919991 and 4919503 were discontinued without supercession in April, 1979.

        Re: 69 washer barrel valve

great stuff, the difference in barrel valve ports is if they are used with drip valve as in 69 or not as in70 71 the ports on the drip valve are bigger than ports on the white plastic on the pump.so you have to have a bigger import port on the barrel valve in 69 but smaller in 70 this was described perfectly by joe in another thread where he had measurements of the ports . so a 69 should have 1 port bigger than the other 2 and a 70 should have 3 equal . now for the color the white one i got has the equal ports the black one joe talks about has 1 bigger pot is this consistent in your collection

Well, as I mentioned, all I can tell you is that my late 1969 has a black valve, I cannot say that all were this way. While I do not think the color had anything to do with the part number number change I have a suspicion that the the 1969-only GM #4919503 was black while the 1970-71 valve, GM #4919991, was "off-white".

            Kerri,

Thanks to you and Dallas for this very intersesting story and information on the washer valves. Constantly learning about these cars is part of what makes this hobby so much fun. Joe as always thanks to you for all the insight, history, and information on the sometimes crazy world of GM part numbers.
