Thanks for the tip ! ... Removing that plate made everything easier to see and made the rod much more accessible. I should have done this in the first place ! I'll be able to get rolling as soon as my new gasket arrives. With the photos you can see the position of my push rod. Perhaps I should tweak its position ?? Thanks ALL !

I think the push rod position should be adequate for pump installation.

and putting the hold in bolt in before you removed old pump?

Not understanding your question . The hold in what bolt ?

The longer bolt you substitute for the short bolt in hole in front of block to hold rod in place while you install pump.
