1965 327/300 Fuel Pump Removal (no AC)

I am the process of replacing my fuel pump. The pump looks to be buried with heater hose, alternator etc. ! I have fairly large hands. How is everyone gaining access to this fuel pump ? Are you removing the alternator and heater hose ?? ANY tips or suggestions are welcome !! Thanks ...Ed

    Ed,
Are you attempting this task from the top side? I've never done it from the top but I would think you would need to remove anything in the way to access the pump. From the bottom, much easier. Don't forget to have the engine at TDC and remove the bolt in the hole in the front of the block adjacent to the fuel pump rod, inserting a longer one to hold the rod (gently) up and out of the way when installing the new pump.

On my '63 I work through the PS wheel arch after removing the tire with a long extension and wobble joint...MUCH easier...and I've done it several times..

This and a socket u-joint connection will make the job much easier.
