There is no difference between a 4800 and a 4960 other than how the two were calibrated at the factory. If you have a good working 4800 unit, I wouldn't recommend removing it just to install a 4960. I don't know about judging points.

4800 units are okay up to VIN 5584 - is your VIN higher?

You need slightly more than that.

The Fuel Meter needs to be stamped "962". Bonus points for not showing a previous "802" stamping.

One time years ago at a Pittsburgh Tri Chapter chapter seminar I had a table set up with an original 7014800 unit and an original 7014960 unit.
From a few feet away they look the same. But close up reveals number differences.
Look in the'57 Judging manual. Look at the new 58-60 manual for the differences.
Numbers on the fuel meter are not the same.
7014800 fuel meter is stamped 802. Nozzles are Q's or R's.
7014960 fuel meter is stamped 962.. Some of the fuel meters are overstamped. 962 right over the 802. Nozzles were S13.
Refer to the judging standards manual for deductions. I am going to guess Dan that you will lose 50% with the incorrect unit. But others know more.
7014800 is a low HP unit although we have heard a few were installed on a HHP engine. John

                Hi Dan
Back to the original question, with a complete and typical 4800 on an Aug. 23 car, it could expect up to 20-40% of the 30 originality points. It might be for config and date.
