    67 big block hood

i want to paint the stinger on my yellow 67 BB hood black. Presently, the complete hood is painted yellow. A couple of questions:
    1. What color black should it be - i.e. flat, semi-gloss gloss or ???
    2. where can I get the correct layout or template for the hood?
    3. When you open up the hood, is the center of the body (under the hood) painted black of the body color?
    Thanks
    Mel

    1) Tuxedo Black (paint code 900)
    2) paragon, LIC and others sell a template that is very close
    3) its all black expect the outer edge is body color

ONLY the hood has black and also the forward point. The area near the windshield is body color. Body color also on the rear underside that protrudes over the cowl.

Use the AIMs for the layout. It would also beneficial if you had some pictures. If you are planning on having your car judged, if you get this wrong it is a 32 point deduct!

purchase some 5/16" striping tape to "mask" the narrow body color stripe. Lay out the entire stripe with the hood installed to get the transition across the front opening correct. The raised area stripe does NOT follow the body line.

Also, according to an NCRS tech session we had up in PA a few years ago, the last inch or so of the point of the outer stripe (closest to the front of the car) was painted by hand on the factory line.

A line worker actually sat there and completed the last inch with a brush. We were shown examples of original hoods and sure enough, if you looked closely you could see that the last inch (or so) on both sides (as the stripe melded into the point) was done by someone's very steady hand holding a paint brush. I was amazed to find this out. There was some discussion at our tech session if the NCRS judges were going to start taking a closer look at that and possibly applying a deduct depending.

Note that the hood stripe has come under a lot of scrutiny in judging recently.
The larger part of the stripe on the raised portion of the hood is also offset to one side.

I would recommend contacting John Ballard or similar (well, there is no one similar ) to get specifics.
You don't want to have to redo it.

John is a good contact. I would also contact the 1967 Team Leader. Nick's contact information is under CONTACTS.

BTW... forget about looking in the ‘67 Judging Manual or the Judging Reference manual which has has not been updated since 2010. The information is not there. There are also other characteristics of the stripe, plus do not put any clear over the stripe.
