    65 odometer

My 65 odometer stopped recording. Where do I look for an article on probable cause?

    Thanks

    Re: 65 odometer

...common problem on C2s... usually quits somewhere between 50K and 100K miles due to a broken plastic gear that drives the display, so the IP has to be removed so you can remove the speedo. Any speedometer shop can probably repair, but they are getting fewer.

I was in the habit of resetting mine every time I filled the fuel tank, and it never broke. A couple of others have reported the same behavior, but I don't know why that worked.

Someone else can probably chime in with a current vendor that can do the job.

I just sent my gauges to D & M Restoration in Greenville SC. They can do a restoration or just repair and calibrate the gauges.

Are you saying that the trip odo still works while the main odo does not?

Its a little more than weird since the trip odometer operates off the main odometer drive train:

                  Duke,

Likely you saw it but a while back (can't remember how long now) Frankie (of Florida red 63 SWC fame) who is often on the Corvette Forum made a very cool small double "L" bracket that he attached to the underside of his gauge cluster. The bracket pushed in the trip odometer button and kept it pushed in permanently when screwed in place. It was very cool and a great idea. Likely he will never have to replace his plastic odometer gear.

Not weird at all since both are driven off the same gear.

How so ? If the odometer is locked up and that large gear on the right in my picture above isn't turning then the trip meter should be inoperative...

Carl - that little trip meter disabling bracket that I made is a refinement on one developed by another forum member to be fair. Anybody can make their own but I am having a friend in the fabrication field make a one-time run of 25 because of the requests I've been getting; they work on 63/64 cars but I have no idea if they work on later midyears. They take a load off the main odometer gear train and extends its lifetime.

It can be taken on/off in 30 seconds...

                        Frank,

That would be great. I sent you a PM on the Corvette Forum side of things on exactly that with all of my personal information. I would suspect that the bracket would work just fine on a 67 gauge cluster and I would be willing to give it a try. I am good at some things but my metal fabrication skills are pretty weak. Thanks for putting it out there as I had never seen the post or development of the bracket by the other Forum member you speak of.

I would do most anything to avoid breaking the plastic odometer gear and having to pull the gauge cluster out to replace it. I will be sure to let you know if it works out for the peace of mind to those with 65-67 cars.

                        Thank you.

Cars with a telescopic column have a different placement of the trip reset.

Not the least bit surprising...and thanks for the confirmation !

I did my speedo and tach last winter, here is who I dealt with and get my highest recommendations.
