    tachometer noise 1957

    Hey Guys,
Have a frustrating problem. My tach cable makes noise until it is run a while and warms up. Here is what I have done so far. Had the tach rebuilt. replaced the gear drive off of the generator. replaced the cable, Have lubricated the cable with Muscle grease, kable ease lube, lithium. nothing seems to quite it down.
It seems to me that someone out there has found the answer. Help!! 1957 vette

      Hey Mike,
Have you had this trouble yourself? when I am driving the car I try to move the cable around but it doesn't help. since it goes away once it warms up I am thinking it must be the grease? Do you know of anything else i could try on the cable?

I have an old tube of AC Delco speedo cable lubricant. I've had it 40+ years. its got a lead cap and the tube itself is soft like lead. its OLD. the grease is white, pasty consistency and resembles the grease sold today to lubricate brake shoes to backing plates. mike

Mike, Is the cable the correct length? I found that my noisy speedometer had a cable that was too long.

Bruce, I had an old speedometer cable I compared to the new one, that was too long. I would think a vendor who repairs guages and sells cables would have specs for the correct overall length, and the length from the bushing to the end of the cable.
